Philosophy

A photograph, like any art, should not stop at its edges. Its total presentation is critical for its success. This presentation must take into account the affordances of the space in which it finds a home. As such, I do not sell prints with a “buy it now” button. My preference is to learn about your space and help you chose the appropriate size and mount to fit your particular style. Once we have determined what works best for you, I will custom print and mount your art using one of the techniques described below.

Photographs mounted and hung in a gallery.Technique

Remember heavy wood frames, double mats, foam core, and glass so reflective you can’t see the art beneath? Thankfully, they are fading away and being replaced by new techniques that provide a seamless, archival, and more refined environment for exhibiting a photograph. All of my photographs are archivally mounted to your choice of:
  • Brushed silver Dibond.  This is a durable aluminum composite, and my personal favorite.  This photo was purposefully taken under a harsh mix of gallery lighting from above and daylight from the side.  Notice the lack of reflection, and how the print appears to blend into the Dibond (left side).  Not including the cleat used for hanging, the final piece of art is less than 1/4 of an inch in thickness!
  • Gatorboard.  This is the print on the right side of this photo, and has a similar “flat” look to the other mounts.  Thickness is approximately 1/4 of inch.
  • Acrylic.  The print is front mounted to a durable Acrylic and is left unframed, as seen below.  It is more reflective than the other two mounts, but has a beautiful presentation in lower light.  Thickness is approximately 1/4 of an inch.
Acrylic mountWith the exception of Acrylic mounts, all of my photographs are covered by an invisible, 3mm lustre coating that protects the prints from ultraviolet radiation and fingerprints, and completely eliminates the reflections associated with glass and plexiglass. This treatment also greatly reduces the weight of the final art, allowing even large photographs to be hung with just a couple drywall screws. Mounting takes place at one of the best professional photo labs in the United States – the same lab that prints my images on Fujicolor Crystal Archive or Fujiflex Crystal Archive paper using a state-of-the-art LightJet Printer. Large photographs are wall hung using a simple French cleat system, which allows the art to float symmetrically off the wall by approximately one half of an inch. Cleats are much more secure and refined than traditional wire hangers. I personally inspect and sign each final piece of art before I allow it to leave the lab. In the end, each photograph is true museum quality that will bring you many years of enjoyment.
